It all started with a simple dream: serve real pizza made with real ingredients to real people. In 1985, founders Tony and Marie Caruso opened the first Green Lantern Pizza on 12 Mile Road with a single oven, a borrowed dough recipe, and an unwavering belief that great pizza brings people together.

Four decades later, that belief hasn't changed one bit. We still hand-stretch every dough, crush our tomatoes fresh daily, and source local produce whenever possible. What was once a family secret is now Berkley's most beloved dining tradition.

From birthday parties to Friday night family dinners, from first dates to post-game celebrations — Green Lantern Pizza has been there for every moment that matters. That's not just our story. It's yours too.

The First Slice

Tony and Marie Caruso open Green Lantern Pizza with one oven, a hand-written menu, and a recipe passed down from Tony's grandmother in Naples. The line wraps around the block on opening day.

Growing the Family

Demand explodes. We expand the kitchen, hire our first full team of 12, and introduce our now-legendary Detroit-style deep dish alongside the classic thin crust.

2001

Second Generation Takes the Helm

Tony Jr. joins full-time, bringing new ideas and a culinary school education. He introduces gourmet specialty pies and a revamped sauce recipe that regulars still rave about today.

Award-Winning Recognition

Green Lantern Pizza is named "Best Pizza in Oakland County" for the first time by Detroit Free Press readers — an honor we've retained every year since.
